New to Fitness

Hello Everyone,

I have been walking about three miles sometimes more ( I walk 5 days a week) for the last 3.5 months and watching my food intake. I am a newbie to exercise and I have lost 25 lbs so far. I wanted to buy a workout video that would help me with toning. I am not into the gym for some reason and I do not even know why I am intimidated by the gym but I am just not a gym person at this time. Maybe later. I don't know what video I can do to take me to the next level. I want something that will not only increase my physically activity, make me fit and toned, but I want something that will give me energy and continue to help me ( I like the idea of walking up stairs and not getting winded after three flights). Any ideas, all are welcome. Thanks, ladies in advance.

Why Carbohydrates Are Important

Are you struggling to get through your workouts and feel physically exhausted after your workouts? Are lacking in energy every day? This might be due to lack of carbohydrates.

The past couple months, I have felt this way. After my workout, I would have my protein shake with water and within 30 minutes, I was ready to go back to bed! I was so physically exhausted I hardly had the energy to do anything! I chatted with some other fitness professionals and we figured out that I needed to add more starchy or complex carbs to my diet. Not only around my workouts, but in my first 3 meals also.

Why starchy or complex carbs? These carbohydrates take longer to break down and offer a more sustained supply of energy for the body.

When choosing complex carbs, choose foods that are wholegrain, such as breads, oats and brown rice. Other foods you want to choose are sweet potatoes, yams, beans, and lentils. These complex carbs should be eaten in the first 3 meals of your day or before 3pm.

The remaining meals should contain fibrous carbs, such as asparagus, broccoli, lettuce, salsa, cucumber or green beans. These are all fine to eat throughout the day, but should be the only carbs you plan in your meals after 3pm.

Using these tips will not only help with your energy level, but will also help to aid in your weight loss goals.

Creating A Healthy Holiday!

It’s that time of year again. Holiday parties, at work, church and with family. For many of us it is a time to add stress to our already busy lives. Not only is there more to do, there is comfort food to graze on! Lets take a look at how we can minimize that this year and not turn to food for comfort.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when joining the family for the holidays:

1. Keep working out, even if they have to be short. They can still be effective. Your workouts are not only going to help you keep those holiday pounds away they will help your state of mind also.

2. Remember durning all of the running around this season to take your vitamins. This is the time of year any people get sick. Taking your essential vitamins and feeding your body properly will ward off those sicknesses.

3. Even though it is getting cold remember to drink your 64oz of water each day. This will keep your body running efficiently and flush toxins.

4. Don’t take on too many projects. As a mother, wife, and daughter I know we tend to say yes too often to help everyone out. Learn to say no. You will find it will free you so much just saying no to a couple things.

5. While at your Holiday gatherings fill 1/2 your plate with veggies such as salad, broccoli (without cheese sauce, come on people wise choices here.), green beans, ect. 1/4 your plate with a lean meat such as white meat turkey (without gravy), the other 1/4 of your plate is for whatever your heart desires. Whether it be scallop potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing…ect.

6. For dessert choose two of your favorites, have half of each to make it one serving.
