One of the easiest way to make sure you are putting healthy foods into you mouth is by reading food labels.
Don't eat foods that have things such as corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, honey, molasses, dextrose, or any other word that has 'sugar" in the list of ingredients.
Not all "fat free" foods are good for you either, most of them contain more sugar making them a worst choice. Make sure the read the labels and ingredients. Healthy fats are needed in your diet. Choose fats such as almonds, walnuts, flaxseed oil, olive oil and natural peanut butter.
Look for foods that contain high fiber. Fiber not only keeps you regular but also helps to prevent a variety of health problems.
One last tip when reading ingredients, they are listed in order of what is used most to produce that product. So if you are looking for a snack bar that contains more oats, makes sure oats is towards the top of the ingredient list!
Happy Shopping!

I always read the nutritional info & check the serving size! Many times this causes me to put it right back on the shelf! It's worth it because you can go into my kitchen and not find any junk food! Well besides my Loaded Butterfinger ice cream! Hey! I have to have a treat every now & then! And the Loaded kind is really a low fat ~ low calorie version. It's my favorite!
1LOL Cheshire!! I should try that, never heard of it! YUM!!
There were a few staples that I would buy every so often in my house. For example... the Philsbury Crescent rolls, etc... until one day I decided to look at the label and they are loaded in Trans fat. YUCK! There are also cookies that I no longer eat because they have tons of corn syrup in them...
Great Post btw!
2I never realized how many foods have corn syrup...my diet has changes SO much since I started looking to see if corn syrup was included...and it is usually in the top 3 ingredients!
3It's so shocking what we put in our bodies!
Fat free = full of sugar! Sugar is fat supporting and one of the worst things you can put in your body!
I look for sugar free or no sugar added as much as possible. No white/bleached flours and eat whole grains, flax and fresh.
The food industry is not very accomodating to clean eating and I actually don't know how diabetics survive. There's so little offered
for them.
Our children need better choices, and apple slices at McDonalds isnt' what I mean. That's lipservice to the problem of obesity.
There's always more, that's what more means.
4I spend a lot of time in the grocery store reading the labels. There are times I wish I didn't read the label, cause if it has too much sugar, salt,or fat, ect. in it, I put the item back on the shelf. And,too, there are many times when I don't know what the heck the words on the ingredients mean.
